Jonah Jones is a user experience designer with over 8 years experience in web development, information architecture, usability and visual design. He has a wide knowledge of internet technologies but excels in browser-based interface development and web applications.

Jonah is currently working at Google in their European headquarters in Zurich. He is currently leading the design of several areas of Google Maps, including:

  • Map & Hybrid tiles, including the recent redesign & translation projects
  • Browsable maps, including all clickable points of interest on the map
  • Maps Layers, including Photos, Transit, Wikipedia, YouTube etc
  • Google Transit, including on-map iconography and transit directions

RI3K, Farringdon

Senior Interface Designer, November 2002 - January 2007

RI3K have built an infrastructure that is transforming the reinsurance industry from a paper-based system to fully auditable on-line electronic trading. See www.ri3k.com for more details.

Jonah has led the interface and usability aspects of a major redesign and rebuild of the entire web-based application from the ground up in an agile XP environment. XML data is passed from the database to an XSL layer, which converts the data to a generic interface definition language. This data is then converted to a variety of delivery media as needed, generally as rich Ajax & XHTML for web clients, but also as PDF & SVG for print, and mobile for small scale devices.

Agora provided high-impact IT solutions to blue-chip clients. During his time at Agora Jonah was involved in a wide variety of roles, from client facing and consultancy, through UML modeling into front-end design and programming. Key clients & projects included:

  • HSBC - Designed and implemented a web-based 360 degree peer review system and graphical powermap tool for internal use.

  • Mercury Private Equity - Designed and implemented the Deal Pulse application, which merged back end data from multiple database applications in real time to present the client team with a single graphical portal of their deal business, deployed into the heart of their offices on a 62" Smartboard for continuous daily use
  • Newchurch - Web interface and Java appointments system for a nationwide Patient Management system.

. INTERESTS

Jonah has directed several short films using professional actors, and has had films shown at the Cannes Film Festival, the National Film Theatre, the Vue Leicester Square and the Curzon Soho. He is also a keen photographer. He jointly organised the Dude Abides, the UK's first Big Lebowski festival, and Platform, an event showcasing new creative talent in film, photography and music.

He plays the guitar regularly and continues to learn Spanish. He enjoys many sports and for the last few years has been involved in stunt training, combining gymnastics, martial arts, and breakdancing.
